PLACES, WHERE YOU CAN MAKE A WISH IN SAINT PETERSBURG. PT. 2

Chizhik- Pyzhik
The childish song about a small bird has inspired Rezo Gabriadze to make a monument of this character.
In the 19th century, the students of the school of justice studies, located at Fontanka, 6 were jokingly called “chizhiky” (siskins). You may see the building of the school. As well as the statue from the board of the city cruise tour along the rivers and canals of Saint Petersburg.
The sculpture of Chizhik- Pyzhik is very small, it is only 11 centimeters. Chizhik is very popular among citizens of Saint Petersburg and tourists. There is a belief that it fulfills aspirations. In order to make your dream come true you should throw a coin on a pedestal so that it did not fall into the water. The sculpture has been stolen 7 times throughout its history and the city had to weld it tightly to the pedestal.

Cats bringing luck
Another place, which is promised to fulfill dreams, is on the way of the hop on – hop off excursion, at the Malaya Sadovaya street. There you can see 2 sculptures of a tom-cat Elisey and lady-cat Vasilisa. It is quite difficult to notice this couple, because they are placed high on the house walls. The figures were placed in memory of the tragic events of the blockade Leningrad, when cats were the only salvation against the mob of rats eating up the rests of the food.
Citizens believe that their cats are able to fulfill wishes. For that purpose, you should flip a coin and if it falls on the platform by the paws of one of the cats, your wish will certainly come true.

The Atlantes
At a walking distance from the “Dvortsovaya Ploshad’” bus stop, you may find the building of the New Hermitage. Its portico is held by the magnificent figures of 10 Atlantes. According to the legend for the marriage to be happy, a newly married couple should hold the toe of one of the Atlantes. It will be easy to find the one you need as it is polished by those who want to be happy.
